The Optomap® Retinal Exam is unique in that it gives Doctor Steed (and you) a much larger view (200 degrees) of the back of the eye (the retina) than conventional eye exam equipment. The images can be taken without dilating your pupils.
Why does Doctor Steed recommend the scan? Imagine two observers in a room who are asked to describe a third person. One observer is given a pen and paper, the other a camera. A year later the three are reunited and the two observers are asked to note any changes in the patient since the last year. Truly a picture is worth a thousand words. Optomap provides that retinal picture.
The Optomap image is displayed immediately after being taken, allowing Doctor Steed to review it and explain what is being seen. If something abnormal is noted, Doctor Steed can point out the area(s) of concern and discuss treatment options with you. Since the image is digital, it may be sent immediately to a retina specialist or other specialist for further evaluation. Each Optomap image is as individual as fingerprints or DNA and can provide eye care professionals with a unique view of your health very quickly and comfortably. The Optomap image is captured in less than one second and is immediately available for you and Doctor Steed to review.
The Optomap Retinal Exam offers many advantages including:
Provides an ultra-widefield view of the retina
Comfortable and quick image capture
Non-invasive
Helps you understand your eye health
Provides permanent records for future comparison
The Optomap technology does not require pupil dilation.*
*Some medical conditions necessitate dilation to fully document or evaluate.
